Echmiadzin – the Vatican of Armenia
Echmiadzin in Armenia is known as one from two spiritual capitals of Armenia. The city is known as the largest city in the province of Arvamir in the Central of Armenia. Echmiadzin is known as the UNESCO World Heritage Site and also the head of Armenian Apostolic Church.
In order to visit the city, visitors can take a bus that will depart regularly with a cheap fare. Taking bus is only way because there is no airport in this city. When the bus about to enter the city, it will go pass the ruins of Zvartnots that is known as the ancient archeological site. Consider to go to Echmiadzin and Armenia in general during spring or fall. As soon as getting off from the bus, visitors may take a walk inside of the town or hiring taxis. The taxi’s fare can is quite cheap to be paid and if the taxis are not the choice, taking Marshutni can be chosen by visitors.
Cathedral of Echmiadzin is the first place must be visited by the visitors. This old cathedral exists for over 15 centuries and this place filled with history of Armenian Church. As mentioned above, Echmiadzin is the capital of spiritual in Armenia so expect the city to be filled with cathedrals and churches. After taking a walk to see the churches and cathedrals, visitors may go shopping for books or souvenirs such as the jewelries, handcrafted souvenirs and a lot other things those will be great to be gifts for the people back home.
